Police are appealing for information and have issued a warning after a group of eight children are believed to have started several fires in a County Durham town, including near an old people’s home.
The Consett and Stanley Policing Team said the incidents of anti-social behavior took place in Stanley town center on Monday (October 21).
After the incident, police warned that these incidents in Stanley had led to firefighters being diverted to those calls instead of attending actual emergencies.
In a statement, the neighborhood policing team said: “This evening PCSOs 30268 Connah and 8891 Burnip carried out extra patrols as part of Operation Trailblazer to tackle anti-social behaviour.
“Unfortunately officers have had to assist County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service at several fires in Stanley town centre, including near a care home for the elderly.
“This meant fire crews had to divert from other ongoing incidents to attend those in the city center which were set up by a group of 7-8 youths.
