With the fighting season, the boys are heated in the area of Siouxland, numerous teams and players split from the package. Backed by victories in statements and dominant performances, here are the five best teams and players from the week of January 20.
Roles French, vermilion, senior
Tanagers’ senior has improved to 20-1 this season and bet on his request as one of the prime ministers of South Dakota 215-pounds, winning a Dak XII conference championship over the weekend. The French took the fourth at the SDHSAA State Tournament of Class A last season and used the second period of 17-1 Tech Fall of Dell Rapids Quinn Carr to shoot the conference title on Saturday.
Luke Sweatk, Elk Point-Jeffson, freshman
Swatek (20-6) needed a 7-4 solution to go past Langdon Clinkhamer from West Central in the semifinals of the Dak XII conference tournament on Saturday, but then Swatek Cole Hendrixson on Tri-Valley in the second period, for to capture the conference title at 138 pounds and avenges for the loss of Hendrickson from the earlier season.

Riley Watts, Lawton-Bronson, freshman
The eighth ranked 126-pound class in Class 1a improved to the impressive 34-0, winning the title “Herb Irgens Ivitational”. In the process, Watts defeated Ryan Banson of West Lyon with an 8-4 solution of the semifinals before the freshman downloaded Jackson Larson to Don Bosco with 15-5 main finals solution.
Aiden Macroberts, Sergeant Bluff-Luton, Senior
McroBerts (38-5) made an impressive running up to a 150-pound title in Herb Irgens Invitational. He started his tournament with a pin from the first period of Caleb Jul to Western Central Calhun, then defeated Holden Colle from Woodbury Central with a 7-4 decision before deciding 5-0 for William Lawson from the Pocahontas area of the finals. Raised # 3 in class 2A, McroBerts also went for three pins from the first period in SB-L Duals vs. West Lyon, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley and Spirit Lake Park last week.
Zavion Ellington Sergeant Bluff-Luton, Senior
Elington moved to a wonderful 41-0 for the season, heading the 175-pound field at Herb Irgens Invitational. His week also included a victory over the Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Brock Mulder to hand over Mulder (37-1) his first loss of the season. After winning Perry Invitational on January 18, Elington went for four pins falls, two technological falls, and the 4-2 decision over Mulder to Cement is a place, as the highest-ranked weight fighter in class 2A.
Eli Fish, Alta-Aurelia, Jr.
As the 113 years won the TWIN LAKES conference title on January 18 place in class 1a.
Boston Peters, Westwood, freshman
The first year, the ninth 157-pound class, moved to 29-0 this season with a title at Oakland-Craig Invitational on Saturday. Peters has nine Pin Falls this season reported on their victory, as well as a dozen victories via Tech Fall. The last contested match that Peters failed to record bonus points was a 9-7 decision for Connor Jacobson on Ridge View on January 9th.
Gauge Thomsen, Pender, Sophomore
Thomsen moved to 22-2 at 138 pounds for Pendragons, going to four pins in the last week. His latest match ended with the second PIN period of Homer’s Josue Munoz fall, which he gave to the Pender Sophomore title in Oakland-Craig Invitational.
Jesse Burton, Westwood, Jr.
Burton (27-2) was ranked seventh in Class 1A won the West Valley Conference title of 120-pound on January 18th and after registering three pins and two wins in the fall of technology, with the latest victories capturing the title of The Tournament at the Oakland Craig Invitational. Burton, State Class 1A in Iowa last season, won titles both at the Western Valley conference tournament and Oakland-Craig Invitational and last season.
Tony Palmer, South City, Senior
Palmer (43-1) was recognized on Southern Siu’s senior night on Thursday, but saw no action as it was at the end of the victory of the loss. However, the NEBR Class B 215-pound defense champion went for three pins by Floyd Conlon Wrestlng Classic. His shortest match lasted only 14 seconds, and the longest of the last three minutes, 25 seconds.
