Augusta, Georgia (WRDW/WAGT) – if you have suffered damage or losses due to hurricane helene in Georgia and South Carolina, it is important to act quickly as the dead deadline is approaching.
If you live in South Carolina, you have time until Tuesday.
Owners and tenants in Abbeville, Aiken, Allendale, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Cherokee, Chester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Greenvil, Greenw, K Berry, Oconee, OrangeBurg, Pickens, Richland, Saluda, Spartanberg, Union and York Counties and the Catawba Indian nation can apply for federal assistance.
After the deadline of January 28, you can still submit documents, update your contact information and keep in touch with FEMA about your application, but you must apply before the deadline.
In December FEMA extended The Deadline for Georgia Aid is February 7thS
FEMA employees say there are so many people who are eligible for help but have not yet received help.
FEMA says more than two -thirds of the state have the right to apply for FEMA help.
They have approved nearly $ 266 million in Georgia and nearly $ 244 million in South Carolina.
If you have not yet applied for help, FEMA says to do it now because you can leave money on the table.
If you have applied and have been denied, be sure to read the letter and appeal if you think it is wrong.
When applying for help, provide as much information as possible, whether it is receipts, photos or videos.
FEMA help may include:
- Temporary Housing Funds as long as you cannot live in your home, such as assistance in renting or recovering a hotel cost
- Means to support the repair or replacement of your main home, including private access roads such as alleys, roads or bridges;
- Disaster costs such as repair or replacement of personal property and vehicles, means of relocation and storage, medical, dental, care for children and other different items.
When applying with FEMA, prepare the following information:
- Phone number you can contact you
- Address during the disaster
- The address you are currently staying
- Social Security Number of one household member
- A basic list of damage and losses
- Bank information if you choose a direct money deposit from FEMA
- Insurance Information: If you have insurance including policy number
There are several ways to apply for help, including Disasterassistance.gov, using the FEMA app or call the FEMA help line at 800-621-3362.
