Federal Judge issues restraining orders blocking federal costs freezing – public radio in South Carolina

Federal Judge in Washington, Colombia District, has issued a temporary restraining order against the Trump administration’s efforts to freeze funding for federal subsidies and other programs.

The order of Monday by US judge Loren Alihan comes in response to a note published by the Management and Budget Service last week directing the financing pause. The temporary restraining order is expanding the scope of the initial pause that the court has set last week, just as the freezing of funding has to come into force.

It also directs Omb – which is part of the executive – to provide the court with a report on its compliance until Friday. The judge also noted that all the open awards that were previously frozen must be released.

In her decision, Alihan damaged the administration as an effort to “manage a rough part on” the outbreak of the Constitution “by interfering with the misappropriation of the federal means of the Congress.” The administration’s plan, she added, “tried to pull out the power of the bag away from the only branch of the government, which has the right to rule it.”

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for a comment on the latest order of the federal court.

Following the cancellation of Omb’s note last week, the White House press secretary Carolyn Levitic stressed that this move would not discourage the work of the administration.

“In the coming weeks and months, more enforcement actions will continue to cease the outrageous loss of federal funding,” she said.

The legal challenge to the note of Omb was brought by a coalition of non -profit organizations, including the National Council of Non -profit Organizations, the striker of democracy, the American Association for Public Health, Main Street Alliance and Sage. In a statement on Monday, the groups celebrated the decision and criticized the administration’s plans as “reckless”.

“Non -profit organizations across the country are left in the limbs of the ghostly actions of the Trump administration. Now they are finally necessary to make some necessary clarity and can continue to do their main work,” said Diane Yentel of the National Council of Non -profit Organizations.

The administration is facing additional legal challenges caused by the Omb note.
