Glendale’s public libraries will be in full swing as February is over. For anyone looking for a fun day or night, here’s what libraries have in the store.
Live @ the library
Driftwood Quintet celebrates the month of black history with an exciting pairing of ventricular music and poetry. The recommended poet Sean Avery Medlin will perform new works and read from their internationally published poetry collection “808 and other people”. The music that will be performed includes works by Jeff Scott and Nkeiru Okoye, as well as pieces of local composer Kevin E. Kerr and his own Benjamin Blade of Driftwood.

Family consequences: Spy
Families (care and children aged 8 years or older) are invited to the library after hours for a super secret spy academy. Participants will learn basic spy skills such as codes, reconnaissance collection, concealment and agility. The mission, if selected, is to register for this program as soon as possible.

Grows in the desert:
Tohono O’odham’s history and culture
Modern Arizoni calls the Sonoran Desert and its striking landscape home. But long before the city lights lit the dark desert sky, Tohono O’Dum was cultivating and formed the earth with abundant farming. Learn how for generations they have conveyed their knowledge, culture, a rich history and connection to the desert presented by Dr. Jace Ramon-Burst.

Library Card Contest: “Glendale through my eyes”
The library hosts a design competition to show what residents love most for Glendale.
The winners will be selected in the age groups for young people (5-11), teenagers (12-18) and adults (19 and up) by members of the Glendale Art Commission. Plus, the “Favorite Fans” award will be selected with the votes of the cartridge. Winning works of art will be presented on a Glendale library map.
The submission will be accepted from March 15.
The works of art will be displayed in Glendale’s libraries during the National Library Week, April 6-12, and the winners will be announced on April 30.

Teenage craftsmen: Cloudy solar attracting
The library calls on all teenagers to meet two months for creative projects such as crafts, drawing and fiber arts. This month we make unique cloud attractive sun that reflects arcs in your room. Registration is required.

Teen Venture: Reflective Mosaic Art
Teen Venture, is a monthly craft program for teenagers aged 12-18 years. This session creates stunning mosaic art, using reflecting CDs, turning recycled materials into dazzling masterpieces. Registration is required.

Do your own magnets
Create magnets to use as decorations or give them as gifts to people. This craft is a fun and easy project for teens from all levels of crafts. All materials will be provided. Registration for age 10-18 is required.

Let’s talk about the variety of history
Celebrate the month of black history and build a more understanding of how to talk to children about what makes people different and what makes them similar. This history time will project the glendale variety kits. This program is intended for the age of 3 to 12 years. Registration is required.

Camelback Ranch-Glendale Spring Training Challenge Challenge
The Glendale Public Library is again united with the Camelback Ranch-Glendale Stadium to offer a chance to win free tickets to DODGERS or WHITE SOX Spring Training Baseball Game.
Just read or listen to an optional book, then visit each location of the Glendale Public Library by February 24th to complete a recording for weekly drawings of play tickets. Visiting a library program or event is another way to win a weekly drawing record. The final winning records will be made on February 25th. The winners will be sent via email code to request their tickets on a special web page provided by Camelback Ranch.
All participants will also have the right to win a drawing for a large prize package, which includes four dugout tickets until the season finals, two autograph items and one ceremonial first terrain of the season finish. The winner of the grand prize will be attracted on Friday, February 28th.
Pokémon Day: Everyone has to craft them!
Pokémon Day is February 27, and the library will celebrate with various fun crafts. Coaches can create origami Pokémon Bookmark, design their own Pokéball, and make Eeveelution ears. This program is adapted for children aged 9 to 11 years, but younger children can join if an adult accompanies them.
