(CNN) – A woman in California is desperate to help her son find her father’s cremated remains.
The US Post Office delivered the ashes, but to the wrong address.
The life of fifty -four -year -old Michael Vorges was cut tragically short of the aggressive form of cancer; It was heartbreaking for everyone who knew him and loved him.
“He struggled with skin cancer and he returned a year later and was metastatic and he just didn’t expect it,” Anna Garcia said.
Garcia, a nurse, said a 23-year-old son with Vorges.
Voorhees died last month in Arizona. His ashes had to be divided and shared by four relatives.
Garcia and her son, who are in San Jose, had to receive their ashes directly from the cremation service via certified mail.
The USPS tracking number showed that the ash was delivered on January 18, but Garcia and her son had never accepted them.
“We investigated and realized that the USPS had delivered the ashes, but at a different address,” Garcia said.
The news was detrimental.
“It is my son who is really distracted,” Garcia described. “We have a holiday of life for him and then we will not have the ashes.”
Other relatives received a large envelope with a clearly marked label that said “cremated remains”.
The United States Post Office provided a statement on Wednesday.
“The station has sent numerous representatives to the place where the item was delivered. Unfortunately, no one answered the door during these attempts. The question has been escalated to the verification service that will make efforts today to help restore this package. We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience that caused it. We acknowledge the sensitivity of this incorrectly delivered element and will continue to follow efforts to restore it, “the USPS statement said.
Garcia acknowledged that the post office works with them, but she and her son are desperate to get their father’s remains.
It was published in Nextdoor, trying to draw the word encouraging anyone who can have the remains to take them to the mail.
“If the ashes are sitting in someone’s mailbox or their kitchen table, their living room, we want to bring Mike home with our son,” Garcia said.
