Hey Lubbock! Halloween is right around the corner, and while we’re all about spooky costumes, what’s REALLY haunting Texans?
A new study has broken down the biggest fears across the country, and in Texas, the biggest fear is one we don’t take lightly: death. It turns out we’re not alone. Seventeen other states, from California to New York, also put death at the top of their horror rankings.
I think our core fear also makes the most sense. Personally, I think “death” would be everyone’s number one fear, right? I mean, if you’re afraid of snakes, you’re afraid of them because they might bite you and you’ll die. So you are also afraid of “death”. But I digress…
Death isn’t the only thing that gives Texans the chills. Heights also made a strong showing across the country, taking first place in eight states such as Pennsylvania and Georgia. And let’s not forget those dangerous noodles known as snakes – they are nightmares in six states, especially in the South.
Luckily, we have wide open spaces here, but that doesn’t stop us from watching our step when we go hiking or hunting… or walking in my yard at Buffalo Springs Lake!
Other top fears like public speaking and confined spaces didn’t make a big showing for Texas, but they’re not far behind on the list. And here’s a fun twist: in Montana, it’s the ghosts and spirits that are scaring everyone to death.
Here’s a question for you – would you face your biggest fear for $1,000? About 24% of people say they would. But here in Texas, where we like to be tough, you have to wonder – are we brave enough to face these fears, or are we just too smart to tempt fate?
I mean I don’t think ANY amount of money would make me want to face actual DEATH!
