Extradition of Zetas Cartel members raises concerns about Nuevo Laredo Travel safety – KGNS

Laredo, Texas (KGNS) – The County Sheriff Web Sheriff warns the public to show caution when visiting Nuevo Larendo and Tamaulipas after the extradition of two high -ranking cartel members.

On February 27, 2025, two top members of the Zetas Cartel, Miguel Angel Trevino-Moralles (Z-40) and Oscar Omar Trevino-Moralles (Z-42) were brought from Mexico to the United States. Their extradition made local authorities warn people of possible risks when they visit Nuevo Laredo and nearby areas in Tamaulipas.

The Sheriff of the County Web Sheriff advises additional caution due to the history of the cartel for violent reactions to action against its leaders. This follows an increase in violence in Nuevo Laredo on February 3, 2025, with shootings erupting in the city.

Sheriff Martin Qualar assured the public that his office was ready with the right border protection resources, but urged people to be alert.

The sheriff’s service continues to monitor the situation and inform residents of safety precautions.
