Events of the monthly month of black history in Baton Rouge: See when, where – Yahoo

Baton Rouge, La. (Louisiana First) – The month of black history in February celebrates the contribution of Black Americans to the country and to the local communities.

In Baton Rouge, several events host live music, food and focus on black culture. Some events invite people to have discussions and tell stories.

The Mayor-President’s service hosts two free events. One is a family celebration in the center of Baton Rouge with live and food music. The Deputy Director of Communications, Chaselin Grant, said the musician Kenny Neal and his family would be honored for their contribution.

“We will celebrate the month of black history, the achievements of black Americans in this country. We know that black history is an American history, “said chief employee of the service Yoland Burnet-Lakford.

Here’s what to know about the events of the monthly month of black history in the Baton Rouge area.

MLK EXPRESSIONS: Open Microphone Night of Community

People are invited to attend and participate in this Open Mic Night event with a spoken word, poetry, music and storytelling.

  • When: 5:30 pm Thursday, February 20.

  • Where: Martin Luther King, junior community center, 4000 Gus Young Ave.

Worship of Black History: Stories from, near Baton Rouge and Louisiana

Lunch for black history

The founder of Chicken Shack Joe Delpit will be excellent at this event for its impact on the community. Deborah Watts, President of the Emet Foundation Emmett and Emmet Til’s cousin, will make a major speech. Click here to RSVP.

African tales from Mom Saba

Mom Saba is a storyteller of Louisiana, who will be in the East Baton Rouge Rouge Router Library. She tells stories through song and dance for all ages.

  • When: Lunch Saturday, February 22

  • Where: Carver Library Branch, 720 Terrace Ave.

The Honest History Festival

This free event of the month of Black History includes food, music and culture. The composition includes SU Gold N Bluez, Kenny Neal and Michael Foster Project.

  • When: 2pm Sunday, February 23.

  • Where: Galvez Plaza, 238 North Blvd.

Education as a civil law: overcoming gaps, building dreams

The Baton Rouge Student Alliance hosts this event, focused on establishing education as a major civil law.

  • When: 17:00 Wednesday, February 26th.

  • Where: Independence Park Theater, 7800 Independence Blvd.
