Evacuation order, warnings raised in three communities of San Bernardino County – ABC7 Los Angeles

The heavy rain forced the evacuation and flooded a home in a neighborhood in Highland on Thursday night, grabbing three dogs in the property.

The mud and debris flowed over Ypsilantha Street as the rising flooded waters carved through the East Highland neighborhood.

The home was flooded while homeowners were out of town. Friends of the family living in the home rushed to save the dogs when the high water reached the home window.

“He is out in Las Vegas for a fun race with his daughter and did not expect all this rain,” said Ramona Hernandez, a friend of the homeowner.

Those who were trying to help were ordered to leave because the situation became too dangerous.

“We were able to take one of his dogs in my car with my daughter right now, but he has two other dogs,” Hernandez said. “A man is in the house. This dog would not come with me. He somehow clicked. The other is inside the garage.”

Hernandez said he felt defeated that he was unable to reach the dogs.

“The door is so swollen in the lower half that I couldn’t. I tried my best, and my husband tried to try to open that door. We just couldn’t open it,” she said.

It seems that the water was stepping around the home Thursday night, which helped to relieve some concerns about dog safety.

Friends of the dog owners hoped to return to home on Friday to extract animals.
