Erving “grieves” after Doncic Move – Sportsmax.tv

Kiri Irving revealed that he was still in the “grieving process” after the Luke Doncic blockbuster from Dallas Maverix to Los Angeles Lakers.

Irving scored 34 points, and Naji Marshall added 19 more against Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday, but that did not prevent Mavs from falling to 0-2 after trading with his franchise last Sunday.

Joel Embide participated for 76ers, recording 29 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists on his return from a victory injury 118-116, improving Philadelphia to 20-29 for the season.

After the defeat on Tuesday, Mavericks have a record of 26-25 and sit outside the playoffs at the Western Conference, but much of the conversations were not for their last loss.

Instead, Irving was asked about Doncic’s trade of Lakers, who saw Anthony Davis and Max Christie go the next time, as well as MAVS, who received the first round for 2029.

“Just really shocked,” Irving said. “You just don’t imagine that you will get ready to fall asleep and then you find similar news.

“It’s still a grieving process right now. I’m missing my Hermanno. It’s a business, it’s a lot over my pay rating.

“I just have to adapt and be ready to welcome in my new teammates with open arms and look ready to return to Dallas to speak to our fans.

“I know they feel it too. And I feel it, guys. So, yes, it’s just a period of correction. I don’t want to downplay this or ignore our new guys.

“They will help us win and help us build in the championship, but just like everyone else at home when you see it from afar, it hurts.”

The 32-year-old also admitted that while trade is shocking, such moves are part of life in the NBA.

“This is a strange case in the history of NBA to be a part, but at the same time it is the nature of our business and it is a ruthless business,” Irving said.

“So you have to be ready to pick up the pieces and run to the championship.

“This is the best goal and why I play, and the presence of other guys who are also winners in the championship helps.

“But at the same time, we still have to admit that our small Slovenian president is no longer here and we must adapt.”

Mavericks head to Boston for the NBA finals with a Celtics rematch on Thursday as they are looking to score their first victory after Donchic’s departure.

But now the shock of trade is beginning to wear out, Irving thinks the talent is available for Dallas to make another deep playoff this year.

“We put the pieces together,” he said. “And the tone is improving just because everyone had questions, a little confusion and that’s why.

“We just talk to each other, making sure we are all good and put the game first and in capacity where we can prepare ourselves and then outside the court of practices and some dinners we will have, make sure that We connect and make sure we do all things to have the qualities of a championship team.

“So, the same vision, just guys in the dressing room are a little different. We’ll have to adapt, but we’ll be fine.”
