Ervine man called “This is Scotland” during a racial aggravated incident – Irvine Times

The 39 -year -old William Young from Plada Terrace has pleaded guilty to a series of charges before appearing for a sentence in Kilmarnok’s sheriff court on Monday, January 20.

He admitted that he was acting in a racially aggravated manner that he was intended to cause a woman and her child, nine years, suffering.

He did this, acting threateningly, repeatedly hitting his neck, shouting and swearing, making racially offensive remarks, and entering the back of the property.

The court heard that on July 16 last year at Craignaw Place in Irvine, the woman was in her home with her three younger children.

She heard bumping at the front door and heard a young shout. He then approached the back of the property, where he continued to shout and hit the house.

A neighbor recorded the entire incident where Young could hear “F *** off, this is Scotland, B **** B ******”.

Young was followed the next day, where he told employees, “I know I didn’t have to go around, but I was defending my children.”

His defender told the court that the incident had arisen from a dispute over harassment, but that the young people knew what he was doing was “not the way to cope with the situation.”

He added: “Things turned for the worst. My client was released from prison in 2020 and he turned his life.”

Young also pleaded guilty to a separate driving incident at which he was caught by police driving during disqualification and without Perdle Toll and Cardow Crescent insurance on July 9 last year.

By condemning, sheriff Morag Fraser said, “These are very serious accusations. I understand that emotions can increase, but that does not justify racist remarks.”

Young was sentenced to 18 months of supervision, 200 hours of unpaid work, and he will be disqualified by conducting or receiving a driver’s license for a period of three years.
