City commissioners, community leaders and members of the Chamber of Commerce gathered on Friday morning to celebrate the re -opening of the Tallahasesee South Side Landmark Earley kitchen after a one -year closure.

“Doggone it, it’s time,” said Erley Jay Morel’s kitchen co -owner. The expansion of his restaurant is part of the revival of the commercial corridor on South Monroe Street.

The restaurant withstands the time test, conquering the often overhanging battle, unique to the business owned by black-owned more than 44 years since its location of 1458 S. Monroe St.

The restaurant holds memories from generations of Florida students A&M, families and local workers who have visited the restaurant for his classic breakfast services and lunch.

The owners Jay and Anita Morel invited the guests to a cutting ribbon on Friday, with a solemn opening “Breakfast in the Community”, which will follow on Saturday, April 27.

About 50 guests saw the new space, starting from the open courtyard. Gold and black balloons lined the front of the restaurant. The interior maintains its sense of a cafe, which makes it “the same old Earl” but with a modernized look.

“We are so proud of today,” said Antonio Jefferson, President of the Big Band Minority Chamber of Minorities in Talahasi. “Today is a wonderful day in our great, great community.”

The interior is illuminated with a fresh layer of white paint and wooden accent walls that open the space, while the light blue accent walls help to soften. The interior and outdoor bar sits to the left of the restaurant before people reach the line of the cafe.

After a prayer, the guests gathered at the front to join Morrellls, members of the Community Reversing Agency and City Commissioners Curtis Richardson, Diane Williams-Cox and Jack Porter, along with the leadership members of Tallahassee Class 41 to cut off the red strip S

The guests were fed heart plates from a classic southern tariff: fried chicken, breasts, mashed potatoes and green. They had dinner in the black plush cabins that outline the walls and small tables that were sitting in order.

The southern style restaurant closed February last year to complete the renovation of both the interior and the exterior. The whole restaurant received a facelift with a new change in the logo (and more) with the help of a grant from the Community Reconstruction Agency.

Earley’s kitchen will continue to serve its usual classic sandwiches, sandwiches, meat and Soul-Food-style breakfast starting on Monday, April 29. The new bar, brunch over the weekend and dinner services will be presented next month.

Morrells also operates Earley’s at the Ministry of Revenue in Soutwood and Earley’s in Capitol, which includes a lower-level cafĂ© and a cafe on the 10th floor.
