The Department of Environment and Energy in Nebraska Kara Valentin has announced the award of $ 9,798,781 grants to support 136 projects throughout the country.
These grants will help financing waste projects and waste reduction, recycling and payment programs for tire cleaning and scrap collections for municipal waste, electronic waste and pharmaceutical products.
Stimulation funds for waste reduction and recycling are generated by a solid waste fee located in the landfills, an annual retail fee and a fee estimated at the sale of new tires. Grants are provided to local integrated waste management projects and may include recycling systems, harvesting households and composting. For 2025, 24 projects worth a total of $ 3 001,424 were funded according to the business fee and disposal fee.
The waste stimulation and recycling program also includes scrap funds that are generated by a $ 1 dollar fee for new tires purchased in Nebraska.
In 2025, 58 grants were awarded for a total value of $ 2,500,919. These grants will fund 22 Nebraska tire cleaning events. Enough funding was awarded to clean 6,035 tonnes of scrap tires.
The funds will also be used to partially restore the price of many products made from recycled scrap tires, such as artificial football from grasses, football, baseball and softball fields, athletic runs for running and surface on the playground.
Waste reduction and recycling funds are generated by a fee accrued to certain manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers of retail products that usually contribute to waste. The program provided grants annually since 1979. In 2025, 54 waste funds for a total of $ 4.296.438 were awarded in the public education, cleaning and recycling categories. Public education programs train citizens to reduce and recycle waste through various school and social activities.
Grates for cleaning provide funding for Nebraska residents of all ages who take waste and debris on highways, Nebraska waterways, recreation land, urban areas and other public areas in the country. Not only the public zones are improved by the removal of waste, but a large part of the collected materials are recycled. Recycling programs provide an alternative to the disposal of solid waste at the NEBRA landfills. Priority is given to programs that encourage markets for recycled materials or purchase products made from recycled materials.
Applications for grants for 2026 will be accepted since June 2025. Check the NDEE website or contact [email protected] for more information.
