Lubbock, Texas, is not exactly known for its winter wonders. More often, the city is associated with dry, windy conditions and swollen summer heat.

But from time to time nature has a way of surprising even the most experienced residents of Western Texas.
Is this Texas?
A recent cold click turned a waterfall into the backyard into a mesmerizing frozen display that you can check yourself by scrolling to the video above. The icy formation, at first glance, frozen in time, looks more like a northern climate than the typical backyard of Texas.
Arctic air mass
While Lubbock temperatures can be submerged under the winter months, resistant cold spells are long enough to freeze running water are relatively rare. According to meteorologists, the latest frigid conditions were the result of an Arctic air mass, which is blurred through the region, which brings temperatures well below the normal year of year.
Cold is no joke
While this video is really cool, I will point out the realities of winter weather in Texas. Mainly, the history of the state to combat infrastructure challenges during extremely cold. For now, however, the frozen waterfall remains a temporary work of art, a fleeting reminder that even in a place known for its warmth, winter still has a way to make an entrance.
