Shock

I’m not sure how I missed the news, but it seems that the Lubbock entertainment landscape is about to change dramatically. I was stunned to see on social media that the last day for movies at Cinemark Movies 16 is Sunday. Although there is no one to call to confirm this news, you cannot buy tickets for any movies at this place after Sunday night.

This is a great loss

I find the opportunity to lose another option for fun at Lubbock for heartbreaking. One could assume that it is a lack of an exciting product or in fact too many theaters in connection with the population as a reason for the closure. When the 16 opened, there was no tinseltown (from the same company), Alamo or Premiere Cinemas. In addition, there will be a combined movie theater/place for bowling in Park again. It would certainly make sense to focus Cinemark focus on a place successfully.

What is next?

There is another question: if this is really the end of the theaters in this place, then what will this place occupy? The whole zone didn’t seem right to me, as Best Buy left the near corner. Also, the lack of a movie theater here can be very impactful to nearby enterprises, as this area of the city is a little isolated.

Story

At least for now, it seems that Cinemark 16 films will join Showplace 6, The Winchester and many others in a long row of movie theaters we had to say goodbye to. I was just by chance when the first destructive ball struck Winchester and believe me, it’s a very sad memory. It will be a sad day if the movies 16 are destroyed after so many people grew up watching movies there. Only for the protocol theater opened on September 7, 1990, so I guess 35 years is a pretty good start.
