Educational moments: Development of colored teachers – public radio in South Carolina

Transcript:

For public radio in South Carolina, I am Renard Harris of College in Charleston. It’s SchoolingMinute education for students and parents.

The National Council for the Quality of Teachers finds that the labor force does not represent the demographic diversity of students. The data shows that the college educated are responded to teaching.

My colleague Techha Salsa-Brown is the director of a new initiative at the Charleston College, which aims to deal with this issue. Sisters from Septima, called in honor of the leader of civil rights and teacher Septima P. Clark, is a program for the development of leadership designed to support the growth of colorful women in the education of teachers.

Students enrolled in the program will receive mentoring, academic support and chance to be part of a community of women who are passionate about teaching.

For the college in Charleston I am Dr. Renard Harris
