EBR Schools Superintendent sends a letter to the parents, addresses fears of deportation of immigrants - WAFB

East Baton Rouge Parish, La. (WAFB) – East Baton Rouge School System Chief The Parge sent a letter to the parents and addressed the constant concerns about the deportation of undocumented immigrants.

The letter from Chief Lamont Cole came after the US Department of Hostess announced the arrest and the deportation of thousands of undocumented migrants. The actions were taken within a few days after President Trump returned to the White House.

Community defenders said, in the background of immigration repression, some parents were concerned about sending their children to school.

The following letter was sent to the parents of students in the East Baton Rouge Paris:

Dear parents and guardians,

The safety, well-being and education of every student in the school system of the parish in East Baton Rouge are our highest priorities. We want to assure you that all children are safe, protected and cared for while in our schools.

Please note that no law enforcement agency can remove a child from any of our campuses without permission from a parent, legal guardian or court order. This policy is strictly implemented to ensure that the safety of each child and the rights of each family are fully protected. All directors are informed of this protocol. In addition, ICE has not turned to any EBR school so far and we have no expectation or communication at the moment showing that they will do it.

In addition, we remain unwavering in our commitment to providing high quality education to all students, regardless of their origin. Our schools are places for training, inclusion and support where every child is appreciated and respected.

Thank you for entrusted with your children. We will continue to work hard to provide a safe, nourishing and welcoming environment in which all students can study and thrive.
