EasyJet Expansion at Birmingham Airport is set to maintain new routes and 800 jobs – Gligan

BIrmmingham Airport won new destinations after the EasyJet flight operator has announced the arrival of two new Travel Hub aircraft, creating 800 new jobs.

The latest new destinations discovered by the company include cities services such as Marrakech, Reykjavik, Hurghada, Prague, Krakow, Rovaniemi and Innsbuck. They took off for the first time this winter.

For Warwick students, this means an easier trip to these holiday places, given the travel time to the airport, will now be reduced by more than an hour and a half compared to the time to reach London airports.

EasyJet has already announced two more destinations, which have become possible with the arrival of two Airbus A320 aircraft this year. The new services, starting on May 2 and June 3, 2025, are at Gran Canaria and Malta.

Gran Canaria is one of the Spanish Canary Islands near Northwestern Africa. Malta is an island nation in the Central Mediterranean, between Sicily and the North African coast.

The expansion of a fleet will also support the local economy, with each airplane based in the UK maintains about 400 direct and indirect jobs and representing £ 27 million in the gross added value of the United Kingdom (GVA).

EasyJet opened a base in Birmingham in March 2024 and now operates up to 280 flights a week, offering 33 routes to 17 countries in Europe and North Africa.

The operator connects Birmingham to major cities in Europe, including Paris, Barcelona and Amsterdam, and a number of maritime destinations such as Portugal, the Canary Islands, Turkey and Egypt.
