Eastwood High boys cross country team earns trip to Class 6A state cross country meet – El Paso Times

The Eastwood High School boys cross country team led the race at the Texas UIL Region 1 cross country meet at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.

The Class 6A Soldiers finished second to Southlake Carroll with 94 points. Southlake Carroll had 46 points (teams try to score as low as possible to win a meet). Northwest Nelson and Lewisville Nelson also earned qualifying bids to the Nov. 1-2 state meet in Round Rock.

Aidan Torres finished fourth to lead the Troopers, who were District 1-6A champions. His time over the 3.1 mile course was 15:14.80.

A few state qualifiers from the El Paso area, here’s a look at those who made it:

Class 4A

  • Fabens’ Alexia Martinez finished 6th in Region 1-4A and her two-mile course time was 11:54.9.
  • The Austin boys qualified two runners for the Class 4A state meet, Pedro Jimenez and Eirik Arredondo. Jimenez placed 10th at regionals in 16:36.40 and Arredondo was 13th in 16:44.60.
  • San Elizario’s Antonio Arreola qualified for state with his fourth-place time of 16:15.10.

Class 6A

  • Eastwood’s Adeline Rodriguez heads to the Class 6A state meet. She placed sixth at the regional with a time of 18:05.7. This will be her fourth trip to state.
  • Emily Orr of Franklin heads to Round Rock. She placed seventh at regionals with a time of 18:20.1.

Class 2A

  • Fort Hancock’s Armando Munoz qualified for state with a sixth-place time of 17:21.70 in the two-mile event.

Races on Tuesday

Runners in Classes 1A, 3A and 5A will compete Tuesday in Lubbock for a chance to qualify for state.
