Support for volunteers who help to keep Coast Durham’s Clean will continue to fund from local council.
Since 2021, 5 175 garbage bags have been collected from the shoreline of Heritage, covering from Seaham Hall beach to Crimdon Beach.
This is due to the work of volunteers from schools and enterprises, as well as persons and groups of the community, with their efforts organized by an employee of beach care.
The Durham County Council has already awarded £ 94,000, so the post can continue in the next three years.
Advisor Mark Wilks, a member of the neighborhood cabinet and climate change, said: “We are so grateful to everyone for their efforts.
“Anyone who has voluntarily spent their time helps to protect this special environment.”
Emily Rutalidge, a manager of development and communications at Durham Wildlife Trust, said: “We want to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy their coastline for the next generations.
“To do this, we need to raise awareness of how important this landscape is and make sure that we are uniting the inhabitants to take responsibility for our own environment by helping us keep it clean.
“We expect this job to continue in the next few years.”
