Driver killed in pole crash, South Carolina Highway Patrol says – Yahoo! Voices

A person was killed Monday when a motorcycle ran off a road in the Midlands and crashed into a utility pole, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The single-vehicle collision happened in Clarendon County, said Cpl. Nick Pye.

The 2008 Harley-Davidson was traveling eastbound on Bloomville Road, according to Pye. Near the intersection with Bonanza Crossing Road, in the Manning area, the motorcycle ran off the right side of Bloomville Road and crashed into a utility pole, Pye said.

The motorcyclist died, according to Pye.

The Clarendon County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the rider of the motorcycle.

No other injuries were reported.

There is no word on whether the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.

There is no information as to what caused the motorcycle to leave the road, but the accident remains under investigation by the Traffic Police.

Through Sunday, 817 people had died on South Carolina’s roads in 2024, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,030 people died in crashes in South Carolina, the DPS said.

At least eight people died in crashes in Clarendon County in 2024, according to DPS data. In 2023, 15 deaths were reported in the county, DPS said.
