DPS performs drug surgery – KGNS

Laredo, Texas (KGNS) – To stop the illegal flow of drugs in the country, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) performs a special group for drug surgery under I -35.

I-35 is known as one of the main drug corridors in the United States, according to the Ministry of Justice.

As thousands travel on this highway, DPS sergeant Eric Estrada explains how DPS cracks when smuggling drugs stops.

“We currently have a working group that is looking for drugs and captures all kinds of criminal activity that is happening on the I-35,” Stranda said.

One stop was caught on the camera showing a body camera footage from the moment the soldiers found 34 kilograms of marijuana in a bag of Duf.

The seizure is a rare find for soldiers according to the stage. “We usually don’t see a family group involving a baby in this type of case. In this particular case, it was a three -year -old family where they wore two babies, and under the car seat they had packages of marijuana. “

The two Laredo brothers in the stopped truck were arrested near the Mile 24 marker and identified as 21-year-old Jose Alejandro Martinez and 19-year-old Ramiro Martinez.

In another case, the soldiers stopped Chevrolet Silverado since 2011 on Avenue Santa Isabel and Bernside St. in Laredo.

DPS reports eight packages of plastic packaging that contained marijuana in the back seat of the car.

In this case, they confiscate 198 kilograms of marijuana with an approximate street value of $ 60,000. The driver was identified as 21-year-old Leroy Castillo, another native of Laredo.

All people involved in the cases described have been accused of possessing marijuana, and their cases are still being investigated. In addition, each case is held at arbitrary moments and dates.

I-35 begins in Larendo, Texas and ends in Dulut, Minnesota. Here at home, DPS stays in the battle to stop the flow of drugs before entering other major cities.
