Dowell joins Hanley in The Blues – Pinkun

Kieran Dowell has linked up with former Norwich City team-mate Grant Hanley at League One Table Toppers Birmingham City on loan from Rangers.

The 27-year-old midfielder has fallen out of favor at Ibrox, making just one start since September 2024. and returned south to join the aspiring blues.

Reports suggest Dowell’s short-term move to the Midlands is a straight loan with no option to buy.

Hanley recently moved to St Andrews after agreeing a mutual exit from the Canaries six months before the end of his deal in the city.

“I’m buzzing to keep going. Really positive feeling about the place.

“It’s a good chance for me to come and play football, to come and play for a team that likes to dominate the ball. I’ve always thrived playing in teams that like to control the ball and speaking to the manager I was completely sold The way he wants to play.”

The former Everton man made 67 appearances for the Canaries during a three-year stay but left on a free agent in May 2023. City head coach David Wagner then indicated his desire to keep the attacking midfielder.

Dowell is under contract at Rangers until 2026. and initially followed Todd Cantwell to Glasgow, but Cantwell has since moved to Championship club Blackburn.

Birmingham have the backing of US investment and are two points clear at the top of League One, with two games in hand on nearest rivals Wycombe.
