Former President Donald Trump unveiled a new tax relief policy aimed at family caregivers at the start of his address to a packed Madison Square Garden on Sunday night.
“Today I’m announcing a new policy that will support a tax credit for caregivers who care for a parent or loved one,” the 45th president announced to about 20,000 supporters.
Trump added that it was time to “recognize” these workers, after his campaign previously promised to boost efforts for seniors and the family members who care for them.
Policy papers released during the Republican National Convention in July said Trump promised to protect and support Medicare while focusing on home care for older Americans.
A campaign spokeswoman, Carolyn Leavitt, told USA Today on Friday that Trump “will take care of our seniors by shifting resources back to in-home care, removing the disincentives that lead to caregiver shortages, and supporting unpaid carers through tax credits and reduced bureaucracy.’
It was not immediately clear how many tax incentives Trump is offering or how the credits would work.

Vice President Kamala Harris also recently touched on providing more support for caregivers, which includes expanding Medicare to cover home care, the newspaper reported.
Trump’s latest policy proposal comes after he campaigned to end taxes on overtime pay, tips and Social Security if voters return him to the White House.
