The family of Mexican-American artist Demi Lovato is in mourning after the death of her newborn niece. The baby was the daughter of Demi’s younger sister, Madison De La Garza, the actress who starred alongside Eva Longoria on Desperate Housewives.

Madison announced her pregnancy on September 5th and shared the heartbreaking news today, October 26th. According to Madison, her daughter Xiomara died a month ago after an emergency C-section.

“On the evening of September 27th, after an emergency c-section, Ryan and I held our little one for the first and last time,” the 22-year-old wrote in her post. “Thank you, Xiomara, for making us the parents of the most perfect angel in heaven. Mom and Dad love you, sweet girl.’

Demi and the rest of the family expressed great excitement for the baby’s arrival and publicly shared Madison and her boyfriend Ryan Mitchell’s grief. The couple took several weeks to grieve privately before announcing Xiomara’s death to the world.

The Sorrow of the Lovato Sisters

Commenting on Madison’s post, Demi wrote, “I love you so much Xiomara. An angel in every sense of the word. I will be your aunt forever.”

Later on her Instagram stories, Demi shared an emotional message saying she was able to meet the baby before she passed away: “RIP to my beautiful, perfect niece Xiomara. I’m grateful to be able to hug you. I’ll keep you forever be your aunt.” She also linked to her sister’s account, captioning it “I love you so much.”

Dallas Lovato, the third sister, posted a poem about the baby:

“Baby girl Xiomara, I miss you everyday.

I will take good care of your mother so you can fly away.

Watch over us and guide us and give us little signs.

One day we will come to see you, but it may take some time.

Not a single day will pass without you in our hearts.

I wish we had more time together before you had to go.

So have fun in your new world, the one we can’t see.

‘Cause every breath I take, I’ll take one for z ♥️.”
