Day 2 of early voting ends in Madison County – LEX 18 News – Lexington, KY

MADISON CO., Ky. (LEX 18) — As we wrap up Day 2 of early voting, Madison County is gearing up for another busy day at the polls Saturday.

Whether it was time or convenience, residents lined up, in most cases out the door, to vote this week.

County Clerk Kenny Barger says they had nearly 6,900 voters Thursday.

“We shape our world,” says early voter Emily Barger. “The people we vote for now affect our future, our children.

Bobby Johns has been an election official in Madison County for several years. He tells LEX 18 the last two days of early voting have been busy but smooth.

“It’s very important to vote,” Johns explains. “Early voters come in, it takes a lot of pressure off other people voting because a lot of times people stand up and say, oh what a long line, I’m not going to vote.” You must vote.’

There was a steady stream of people at Ignite Academy North Campus on Friday, one of several places in Madison County where people could vote early.

Doors opened at 8 a.m. While a line formed out the door, a handful of voters said it only took about 15 minutes to get in, vote and leave.

Madison County residents can vote at any location in the county. Barger believes this has made a big difference when it comes to time and convenience.

“We’re expecting a 60 percent turnout, which is 44,000 voters,” Barger says. “So if everyone waits until Tuesday, we have 10 spots open, but you can see the math just doesn’t work to physically get all those people through. So I’m very excited about people coming out and using this amenity that we census workers have been fighting for several years to achieve.”
