Liam Davies is ready for his latest effort to climb the junior featherweight ranks.
“The Telford Inoue” easily won his TNT Sports headliner weight against Shabaz Masoud. Davis (16-0, 8 KOs) was 121.6 pounds, while Massoud (13-0, 4 KOs) was just under the division’s 121.9 pound limit.
Their scheduled 12-round regional title fight headlines Saturday’s TNT sports show from bp pulse LIVE in Birmingham, England.
Davis was named by Dev Sahni, boxing’s top announcer and hype man, as the one who would eventually defeat Naoya Inoue (28-0, 25 KOs). As unrealistic as they are, fights like this one will go a long way in helping the 28-year-old rise to contention.
A three-fight knockout streak precedes Saturday’s event. It came right there when Davis stopped Eric Robles (15-2, 9 KOs) in the second round on March 16.
Massoud (13-0, 4 KO) is also making his second consecutive appearance on the rebranded bp pulse LIVE. The 28-year-old prospect from Stoke-on-Trent edged out Marvin Solano on July 20.
Saturday will mark Massoud’s first scheduled 12-round appearance.
The main support pits two former titleholders in search of their way back to the top.
Former undisputed 140-pound queen Chantel Cameron (19-1, 8 KOs) defends her interim WBC junior welterweight title against Sweden’s Patricia Berghult (17-1, 4 KOs).
Cameron weighed in at 139.7 pounds, while Berghult — a former 154-pound starter now campaigning at 140 — weighed in at 138.2 pounds.
The bout is Cameron’s second under the Queensberry Promotions banner. She signed with Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren earlier this year and won a minor title in her first outing. That came in a July 20 win over Elchem Mehaled at this venue.
Key to Cameron’s campaign for this trinket was positioning herself for the winner of the November 15 Katie Taylor-Amanda Serrano rematch. Northampton’s Cameron will be the mandatory challenger for the undisputed crown, which she lost to Taylor in their rematch on November 25 in Dublin.
Cameron named the Irish superstar last May, spoiling Taylor’s long-awaited return to Ireland.
Berghult (17-1, 4 KO) has won two in a row since a ten-round loss to Natasha Jonas in their unification bout in September 2022. Berghult held the WBC 154-pound title but dropped the belt to the British icon in their affair for the WBC/WBO championship.
