David Warner’s lifetime ban from leadership overturned by Cricket Australia – Irvine Times

In a unanimous decision, an independent three-member panel decided that Warner had met the necessary criteria to lift the ban.

In 2018, Warner was banned from managerial positions in all Australian cricket competitions after being accused by CA of developing a plan to alter the condition of the ball using sandpaper during a Test against South Africa.

The ban was lifted after Warner appealed to the CA, with the review panel noting in its decision the “content” and “respectful and contrite tone of his (Warner’s) responses.”

The panel said it reached a “unanimous view that he was sincere and genuine in accepting responsibility for his conduct and in stating that he was extremely remorseful for his conduct”.

The panel also considered references citing “the contribution that Mr Warner has made and can make in the future to the development of young cricketers in Australia if they are given the opportunity to be guided by Mr Warner, his important continued role in promoting interest in cricket, particularly with the South Asian community in Australia and in general”.

Warner retired from Test cricket in January after 112 appearances and 8,786 runs at a good average of 44.59, his last Test being at his home ground in Sydney when Australia defeated Pakistan.

However, the 37-year-old said earlier this week that he would be willing to come out of Test retirement and take up Australia’s troubled opening position for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India starting in Perth on November 22.
