NBA fans generally don’t consider the Dallas Mavericks the best choice to exit the Western Conference until June. However, those same fans would admit that their teams will have a tough time stopping a team featuring Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson from scoring.
While fans can expect Luca Magic to consistently be one of the most unstoppable players in the league, fans have plenty of reasons to be excited about the state of Uncle Drew. The 32-year-old guard, who spent the offseason recovering from the physical and mental demands of the game, is eager to return to the Finals and win his second NBA title.
Like many Dallas fans, he is positive about Klay’s inclusion on the team. The former Splash Brother is eager to start the season and prove many of his doubters wrong about him being washed up.
In a show of support, Kye shared his honest thoughts on the prospect of playing with the four-time NBA champion.
Kyrie Irving praises Klay Thompson’s personality as Dallas Mavericks prepare for upcoming season
When you ask basketball players what it would be like to play with a future teammate, many would describe their performance on the court and what they can add to the team.
Irving, however, took a different view of Thompson’s situation. He talks about what kind of person he is off the court.
Per Noah Weber of The Smoking Cuban:
“He just stays by himself, he loves his family, he loves what he does for a living, he loves helping people, he loves to travel,” Irving said of Thompson on Monday. “He’s generally a good guy. It’s a luxury we don’t take for granted to have that type of person and that type of personality in our dressing room.
The fact that he didn’t even talk about Klay’s potential impact on Dallas’ game plans shows how much faith he has in the shooting guard. Although Klay had a down year in his final session with the Warriors, he still averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists on 43.2%/38.7%/92.7% shooting.
With a Finals team like the Dallas Mavericks, chemistry is more important than simple numbers. If Kyrie is giddy at the prospect of playing with Klay, Mavs fans should also be looking forward to seeing how their new sharpshooter performs in Texas.
