Traffic Advisory for the week of 10/28/2024 to 11/1/2024

EAST KERN, INIO and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of October 28 through November 21.

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather conditions, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction related issues.

New traffic impacts

East Kern County

  • Cache Creek/Keene Scales CMS Project – On State Route 58 near Woodford-Tehachapi Road at Exit 139 west of Tehachapi, the outside lane and eastbound shoulder will be closed while crews begin construction of the replacement message signs. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Ridgecrest Paving Works – On State Route 178 E from Gateway Boulevard to Gold Canyon Street, the westbound off-ramp will be closed while crews perform sidewalk, curb and gutter work Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Inyo County

  • Auxiliary activities on West Line Street – On State Route 168 W from Iris Street to Warren Street in Bishop, utility crews will have access to shafts Monday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Optical installation on the main street – On US 395 from Yaney Street to Sierra Street in Bishop, utility crews will be crossing fiber optic cable across the road Monday and Tuesday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There will be intermittent traffic disruptions and drivers may experience short delays.
  • Bishop Pole change – On US 395 near See Vee Lane, the north bound will be closed while utility crews replace a utility pole Monday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Mono County

  • Replacement of culverts on minaret road – On State Route 203 about one mile east of Mammoth Mountain Lodge near Mammoth Lakes, crews will be replacing a culvert Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. There will be one-way traffic and drivers may experience delays of up to 10 minutes.

Ongoing traffic impacts

East Kern County

  • State Road 58 Shoulder signs – State Route 58 from Exit 172 to Hyundai/-Kia Boulevard east of Mojave will have westbound signs warning of off-pavement work Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • State Route 58 Medium Safety Device Project – On State Route 58 at Cameron Canyon Road, the shoulders are closed in both directions while crews repair and upgrade the guardrail. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • China Lake Water Main Replacement – On State Route 178 E between N. Brady Street and N. Victor Street, the westbound outside lane is closed while crews replace a water main Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The outside lane will be reopened after hours and the shoulder will be closed at night.

Inyo County

  • Southbound traffic switch Olancha-Cartago – Southbound traffic is now directed to the new southbound lanes of US 395 through the Olancha-Cartago 4-Lane Expressway project area. Southbound traffic seeking access to Olancha, Cartago and State Route 190 may use the newly constructed Crystal Geyser Road. Northbound traffic will remain on the current lanes. The speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph through the project area. For more information about traffic switching, visit:
  • Olancha shoulder straps – US 395 at the intersection with State Route 190 in Olancha will have intermittent shoulder closures to allow access for delivery trucks Tuesday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Ride to Cure Diabetes Bicycle Race – There will be a bike race on State Route 190 from Borax Mills Road to Badwater Road in Death Valley National Park this Friday and Saturday. No lane or highway closures are planned for this event. We ask drivers who encounter cyclists on the road to slow down, give them space and wait for an opportunity to pass safely.

Mono County

  • Sonora Junction Shoulders Project – On US 395 between Burcham Flat Road and Sonora Junction, crews continue to install permanent signs. Hours of operation are 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Monday through Thursday and 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Friday.
  • Highpoint Rockall Repair – On US 395 from 1.5 miles north of State Route 89 (Monitor Pass) to one mile south of the Nevada state line along Topaz Lake, crews continue to repair a damaged rock fall protection system Monday through Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. One-way traffic will be in place and drivers may experience delays of up to 20 minutes.

San Bernardino County (District 9 maintains State Route 127 in San Bernardino County in coordination with District 8)

  • Baker auxiliary work – On State Route 127 from Interstate 15 to Schoolhouse Lane, county crews have placed traffic control devices on the shoulders. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The $16.8 million Sonora Junction Shoulders project is funded by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA) – also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act. According to the IIJA, California will receive an estimated $41.9 billion over five years. The IIJA provides significant funding to rebuild California’s transportation system, including support for improving roads, bridges, freight projects, public transit, infrastructure safety improvements, and increasing infrastructure resilience to the effects of severe weather and climate change. the climate. The Highpoint Rockfall Repair Project received $2.001 million from Senate Bill (SB) 1. SB 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually, distributed among state and local agencies. Road projects move through construction phases faster based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1.
