Cuban truck driver from Hialeah killed in West Virginia

The family of Reynaldo Gonzalez is in mourning following the loss of the young father in West Virginia following an apparent road accident.

Gonzalez died Dec. 7 on Interstate 81 after an altercation with another truck driver. His brother from Hialeah says a piece of him was ripped off and wants to use the opportunity to ask people not to fight other drivers behind the wheel.

According to his brother’s account, Univision 23Reynaldo was driving on the interstate and talking to him on the phone when he got into an argument with another truck driver.

“(…) he was arguing with the man from truck to truck and I told him, Ray, put this problem behind you,” said his brother Uniette Alonso.

The young Cuban traveled to Massachusetts to make a delivery.

According to his brother, he called shortly after the call, but Gonzalez did not answer. What Alonso didn’t know was that his brother and the other truck driver had stopped to argue on the side of the interstate.

According to authorities, the other truck driver fatally shot Gonzalez with a shotgun and then fled the scene. Gonzalez unfortunately died at the scene.

The young Cuban left behind a wife, a 3-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son. His body remains in West Virginia while the family tries to bring him back to Hialeah to say their final goodbyes.

Out of grief, his brother sent the following message to the drivers: “Everyone, please leave your problems at home. Don’t fight if someone interrupted or honked your horn. You know how trouble starts, but you don’t know how it will end.”

The truck driver responsible was arrested in Philadelphia and will be extradited to West Virginia, where he committed the crime, according to the aforementioned media.
