Cuban doctors with uncertain immigration status seek US protection – Cuba titles

Solidarity (SSF) based in Hyalea, Florida, has launched an initiative aimed at supporting Cuban doctors and other healthcare professionals facing immigration challenges in USAS This includes those who own I-220A or those under deportation orders. Julio Cesar Alfonso, president of the organization, actively pursues legislative decisions in Washington to help these persons regulate their status.

In a discussion with Marty Alfonso said he met with members of the Congress, including a representative Maria Elvira Salazar Other Latin American legislators, to advocate for measures that take advantage of medical professionals not only from Cuba but also from Venezuela, Nicaragua and Haiti, who have fallen into a legally limb after the regulatory changes of the Trump administration.

Advocacy for legal decisions

“Our goal is to help people with indefinite status, such as Cubans holding the I-220A, and those under deportation orders,” Alfonso stressed. The organization is also working to revive the Cuban Medical Professional Program (CMPP), which has previously allows Cuban doctors to escape from the regime regime, to settle legally in the United States with special permission.

Alfonso mentioned that this program, which was canceled by Barack Obama in 2017, could facilitate organized and legal migration. He noted that many of these professionals are highly qualified and can significantly contribute to the US health system. “If the immigrant wins higher education, they must have the opportunity to regulate their status, as former President Donald Trump suggested in the past,” he added.

Building a case for qualified professionals

The SSF compiles a database containing the names and identification data of doctors and nurses who seek to legalize their status. This information will be provided to the Ministry of Interior Security and the members of the Congress. “We want to show that these professionals are a law with valid vocational training and a real desire to contribute to American society,” Alfonso stressed.
