Coyote bites child while riding bike to school in OC – patch

IRVINE, Calif. — A child was injured when a coyote bit him while riding his bike to school Tuesday morning, the Irvine Police Department said.

The 10-year-old, who was not identified by police by name, was riding his bike near the Pathway near Portola Springs Elementary School when he stopped to take off his jacket, felt something on his lower leg and discovered a coyote had bitten him. Irvine Police Department Sergeant Cary Davis told The Orange County Register.

The bite was reported after the child went to school and he was treated by his primary care physician for a minor skin break, she said.

The police department’s Animal Services Unit is working with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to investigate the incident and locate the coyote, according to IPD.

No further information was immediately available.
