Plans to expand Vets in County Durham have been tabled at the council.
Seaham Vets has proposed to expand its practice at an adjoining property, 42 Gregson Terrace, Seaham.
The goal of this expansion is to improve the experience of cats at the clinic, who are reportedly disturbed by the current shared waiting room with dogs.
Plans include the creation of a separate waiting area for cats, which the practice believes will greatly improve the service for feline patients.
The extension will also introduce additional support spaces and refurbish the existing kennels by moving them into windowed rooms to improve the animals’ living conditions during their stay.
The total unfolded area of the practice will increase by 89 square meters without reducing the existing area.

This proposed extension includes a formal change of use from residential to commercial for the property at 42 Gregson Terrace.
The exterior and scale of both properties will remain unchanged, with the focus on interior modifications.
Seaham Vets, which operates at 43 Gregson Terrace, specializes in pet care.
The proposed expansion would allow the practice to separate waiting areas by species to reduce stress for all pets, especially cats.
The practice does not intend to expand its workforce, which currently consists of nine full-time and four part-time staff.
Access points and available on-site services will remain unchanged, with no changes to existing infrastructure.
Existing methods of disposal of veterinary waste will be maintained and waste collection regulations will remain the same.
The rezoning of 42 Gregson Terrace began on October 1, before the formal application was submitted on October 14.
The application is currently being considered by Durham County Council.
