Scottsdale, Ariz. (AP)-Four-stop All-Star Corbin Burnes had a star spring debut for Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday, with the three Colorado tests facing.
The CY Young Award winner in 2021 needed 16 fields to retire Brenton Doyle, Kyle Farmer and Ryan McMahon and even received help from the new automated impact system.
“It’s good to get ours there,” Burnes said. “It’s a good idea to knock down a little rust, to go out there and have a relatively fast.”
Gabriel Moreno hunter requested a low -quick ball to a farmer called a ball, and the call was canceled for a strike three after a repetition showed that he just grabbed the bottom of the impact area. Burns looked in good shape with a quick ball that approached 95 miles / h.
The right hand wanted to start the opening cactus league, saying that it likes to get on the mound as much as possible in the spring.
“The more time I can enter the mound in situations of the game, the more I feel better and the better I can prepare for the season,” Burnes said.
Burns signed a surprisingly $ 210 million six-year D-Backs deal in December. In a retrospection, the partnership was not so strange – Burns lives in the Phoenix area and has a young family who wants to be around as far as possible.
Burns, who turned 30 in October, was 15-9 with 2.92 ERA last year for Baltimore, who acquired it from Milwaukee in Trade. He was All-Star in each of the last four seasons.
Manager Tori Lovulo said he was not sure who would be the starter for the opening of the team on March 27 against the Chicago cubes, but the obvious candidates were Burns and Zack Gallaln, who have been one of the best pitches in the HL in the last three seasons.
“This will be a difficult conversation for me, not them,” Lovulo said. “From what I learn about Corbin and what I know about Zack, I think they would understand and move aside for the other and support this decision with all the heart.”
D-Backs can have a deep starting with Burnes, Galen, Brandon Pfaad, Raine Nelson, Meryl Kelly, Eduardo Rodriguez and Jordan Montgomery all viable options.
