Conflict of Interest Research and Security – Nevada today

The university encourages and supports the interactions of its teachers, staff and students with federal, state and local authorities and with business and industry as important opportunities for research, education and public service.

The university also acknowledges that external activities or interests can lead to real or perceived conflicts of interest (COI). Conflicts of interest arise when financial or other personal considerations have the potential to adversely affect or adversely affect the employee’s professional assessment or to fulfill his or her duties to the university. Unmanageable conflicts of interest can question the professional objectivity and ethics of the individual and negatively affect the university.

Education, research, hiring solutions, public procurement and all other university activities must be free from the unnecessary influence of external interests. All university employees are considered public officials and must comply with the Code of Ethical Standards of Nevada as codified in NRS 281 A.400 – 281 A.660.

It is important to note that conflicts of interest do not imply misconduct; They are practically inevitable at a University of Research. Activities can usually continue with appropriate supervision and precautions. The most effective way to ensure transparency and supervision of the conflict of interest is by detecting, reviewing and managing.

Discovering potential conflicts of interest

Discovery is the key to successful conflict management. According to university policy, all university employees are obliged to present online conflict of interest if they have any of the significant financial interests and/or external relations listed below (1) during hire and (2) within thirty days after the discovery or acquisition of a new significant financial interest or external relations.

In addition, the following employees must annually disclose a conflict of interest during the University Conflict Campaign.

  • Faculty
  • Faculty
  • Classified staff
  • Medical residents
  • Doctoral students

During the annual COI disclosure campaign, these employees either identify actual or potential conflicts of interest or provide a certification that no one exists.

What should be revealed?

Another type of potential conflict is a conflict of commitment. Prior to participating in a compensated external scientific or professional activity, the Faculty of Faculty of full -time and the classified employees are obliged to provide a notification and request approval from their manager.

The disclosure of possible conflicts of interest/certification of no one and the prior notification/approval of compensated outside professional activities is carried out online through information.

Review

The potential conflicts of interest will be reviewed by the university employee, a particular employee and possibly Committee of Coi. The requests for participation in compensated external scientific or professional activities will be examined by the manager or director of the employee. If the manager/designer is concerned about possible conflicts of interest, the request can be sent to the employee designated for Coi for additional examination.

Management

If the COI Committee determines that there is a real or perceived conflict of interest, the Coi employee will work with the employee to develop a management plan. The management plan articulates the steps that will be taken to mitigate the risk of impaired objectivity. In rare situations, the COI Committee may determine that the conflict cannot be managed and the factors leading to the conflict must be eliminated.

Coi training

Project investigators sponsored by the Public Health Service (NIH, CDC, Samhsa, CMM, etc.), agencies who have adopted Coi Public Health Policies, the Ministry of Energy and others require all persons who meet the criteria of ” The researcher “Complete Coi training before the cost of grants and at least every four years thereafter. In addition, everyone covered by a Coi management plan must complete Coi training. Others may be required to complete Coi training if necessary. The university uses online Coi training through Citi to meet these requirements.

A non -compliance with Coi’s policy

Violation of UAM 2,050: The Conflict of Interest Policy can lead to discipline, as stated in accordance with the NSHE Code of Chapter 6 and UAM 2.370 and can lead to civil and penalties under NRS Chapter 281 A.500-550.

Compliance with this policy can be implemented by exercising administrative responsibility for supervision of funded research and management of university facilities and other university property. Such measures include but not limited to:

  • Freezing research funds or accounts
  • Cancellation of contracts concluded in violation of this policy or federal or state legislation
  • Presenting court actions to restore the amount of the financial benefit received by the employee as a result of the offense of the employee of that policy
