Complaints of Crystal Towers repairs spilled into another Haws property – Winston -salem Chronicle

It’s been just a week since Crystal Towers residents have filed complaints about the living conditions inside the building, and now tenants from another public residential facility for the elderly have come up with similar complaints.

In the last year, residents of Healy Towers have said they are facing a number of problems, including bed bugs and other pests, molds, water supply and security problems.

Edith Chishold, a resident and leader of Healy Towers United, the organization of residents, said they had accepted their complaints in the leadership and housing management of Winston-Salem (Haws), but nothing was done to improve living conditions. Mike Gathis, who has lived in Healy Towers since 2010, said the bed bugs in his apartment had influenced his ability to see his family. Michelle Boone spoke at a press conference on behalf of his mother Mary Tyler. Boone said the residents of Healy Towers have already paid their fees to society and deserve to live in a place that is comfortable, safe and clean. Boone said her mother moved to Healy Towers a year ago because she wants to live independently. She does notI don’t want to live with my children and thatHer right. But she deserves to live comfortably,said Boone.

With the help of housing justice, the local HEALY TOWERS UNITED residential rights group has started a petition requiring changes signed by more than half of the residents living in the building.

Kevin Cheshir, CEO of Haws, said the press conference was a coordinated effort from housing justice in order to accumulate public outrage from false claims.

In the press release received by The Chronicle on Monday, Cheshire mentioned that housing justice has now used these tactics before. Housing justice now helped to organize the residents of Crystal Towers, which houses the elderly and those with disabilities. Cheshire also mentioned that he has strong working relationships with the HEALY TOWERS advice.

The same tactics were used by the same group in one of our other places where old photos and videos were used to find that they reflect current conditions – which is simply false,Cheshire continued.

“We will continue to work with the residents and the Council of Residents to deal with the legal facility, the operational, maintenance or management of management, as we always have. However, we will not continue to waste valuable time, resources and energy, engaging or responding to external agitators, whose main purpose seems to be the creation of disharmony, division and chaos with our communities. ”

Along with the press release, Cheshire includes five pages of work orders, which have been executed in Healy Towers since the beginning of the year. He said work orders have almost always been completed within 24 hours and reflect problems expected in an apartment building built in the 1980s.

In addition to work orders, Cheshire mentioned that $ 2 million was spent on improvements to Healy Towers, including upgrading the fire system and overall renovation of the living room.
