As for Darius Garland, Cleveland’s senior coach Cavaliers Kenny Atkinson sees some similarities in his play with Philadelphia star 76rs Tyrice Maxi.
Garland may be an older player who lands in a league with a class higher than Maxi, but he still has a place to improve.
When Atkinson discussed his potential two -time NBA star match on Friday night before the match against Sixers, he compared Maxi and Garland without prompting.
“A little bit like Tyrese [Maxey]S Elite speed. He can go through anyone, he can get into battle when he wants because of the speed factor, “Atkinson told Garland.
“Then a highly qualified, excellent feeder, unique in the sense that he can shoot the three. Dribble – The three dribbles – which very few guys in this league can. He has the whole package, like Tyrry.
In the second season of Maxey in NBA, Garland won his first nod in All Star, scoring an average of 22 points and eight assists with 38 percent shooting of three.
Garland kept these numbers next year, but failed to win his second participation in All Star. After that, last season, Garland scored a slight decline in production, as he scored 18 points and seven assists per match, with 37 percent of depth firing.
The 25-year-old veteran returned to the same track as before, in the 2024-2025 season. In 42 games, he scored an average of 21 points and seven assists with 43 percent depth firing.
Garland probably focused on his second participation in the star match, as he was an excellent colleague in the top team of the Eastern Conference.
Atkinson is looking forward to seeing Garland improving in a key area where Maxi has succeeded in the last season.
“I told Tyris the last time I saw him told him,” Man, you seem to be bigger. “I think this is Darius’ next step,” Atkinson explained.
