Community efforts that seek to help restore the high -way rating after vandalism – WCTV

Tallahasee, Florida (WCTV) – It is reported that High Road’s historical site is broken and destroyed. The community is now working to restore the property.

For the past 25 years, Nita Davis has been working to maintain High Road interest rates with her daughter Sonia de la Cruz. The duo serves as directors of the Lora Jepsen Institute.

Lichgate is a 16th-century Tudor-style house built in the 1950s by Florida professor Laura Jepsen. She began teaching English when FSU was a college only for women. Jepsen is also one of the founders of the Leon County Human Society, according to Davis.

It was Jepsen’s desire that her inheritance to live beyond her, through her house. “I have always tried to keep it so that people can be as they are when they come here and feel that sense of acceptance,” Davis said.

Davis was heartbroken to understand that the quirky villa was destroyed by vandals on January 18th. A day that she won’t forget.

“I felt so sad that someone would do it because it was such a quiet and peaceful place,” Davis said. “It just sails with what they said it was wing and prayer, but now it’s time to really secure it. It was a wake up. “

The furniture inside the lodge originally belonged to Jepsen, according to Davis. She said everything was broken and turned upside down after the incident.

Now the duo of the daughter is resting on the community to raise $ 50,000 to restore and secure the property, especially since she has become a loving community space.

The property is a kind of its kind with many gardens, a 300-year-old oak tree and boards from the King’s forest, according to De la Cruz.

“This is a place of contemplation and relaxation for the community,” said de la Cruz.

The nationally recognized site is supported by a small group of volunteers working to return the place.

The Song Writers Association also has a day of entertainment and performances of 1401 High Road on March 15th. The event is free, but all the donations will go for recovery efforts.
