BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB)-On Friday, Christopher Davis, 31, accused of involvement in a fatal shooting in 2022, was scheduled to be on his way to the Parish Jail in East Baton Rouge.
“That word didn’t get to the driver,” says EBR District Attorney Hillar Moore. “Through any lack of communication.”
As far as we know, Davis never arrived at the prison.
“This particular inmate was transported from where he was in East Carroll along with a group of inmates who had apparently served time and were brought to a bus stop,” Moore said.
This bus stop is located just off Florida Boulevard.
Court records show Davis’ bond has been set at $700,000. We’re told he was never paid and he was wrongly fired.
Moore detailed that Davis transferred because of at least one dispute with security at East Carroll Parish. In short, he details the danger of the situation.
“This is certainly a security risk. It’s murder in the first place – and you have relatives and family members who are concerned. “
Moore says families have been notified. We attempted to speak with Davis’ family, but they declined on the advice of their attorney.
Moore added that from the conversations he’s had since the situation developed — no one in Baton Rouge was even aware of Davis’ transfer.
“Talking to the warden and the sheriff’s office, they have had no formal communication saying Hay is targeting this inmate is coming back and he is coming back for those reasons and he should be in your facility at that time,” Moore said. “So no one was aware he was out until they were notified.”
This isn’t the first time an inmate housed in East Carroll Parish has been wrongly released.
In 2022 convicted murderer Michael LeBlanc was also released after serving time on an unrelated gun charge. He was later arrested again in New Orleans.
