Colts should consider the preparation of national Defender champion – the last word for professional football

Colts should consider the preparation of national Defender champion – the last word for professional football

It is time for Colts Indianapolis to improve its fighting protection. Choosing Jack Sawyer in the NFL 2025 draft can certainly help. Sawyer, who helped Ohio State to win the National Championship, is one of the best prospects for defensive end in the draft.

Indianapolis split with the defense coordinator Gus Bradley and replaced it with Lou Anarum. Colts fans should be optimistic about former Cincinnati Bengals coordinator. He could improve Indy’s protection in 2025 and help them get them to the playoffs.

With Annarum in the city, Colttes protection can look much different next season. Will Jack Sawyer be part of the new view?

His high school and career at college

Jack Sawyer grew up in Picklington, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus. He played football and basketball at Picklington High School North. Starting as a reserve narrow end, Sawyer eventually moved to a defensive end. He also plays a defender, finishing 79 out of 135 for 1,056 yards and nine touchdowns.

Sawyer was a five -star perspective, which was the common player # 1 in Ohio in Ohio, No. 4 in the country and the nation # 3 of the defense end. He received offers from Notre Dame, Michigan, Oklahoma and Pen. But he eventually chose to play in Ohio.

Last season, Sawyer recorded 59 combined equipment (nine for loss), nine sacks, seven omission protected, three forced strokes and three ignitions recovered. He also had an interception that was returned for 12 yards.

During the cotton bowl, Sawyer made a game to save a game to seal the victory against Texas. He stripped the ball of the Quinn Eurs defender and leaked 83 yards to the end zone. Ohio beat Longhorns 28-14.

Later, Jack Sawyer helped the defender Will Howard and the bouquets win a national title, the first school of 2014. They demolished Notre Dam 34-23 in the championship game. Sawyer completed his collegial career with 144 games and 24 bags.

Why should the colts prepare it

The defensive end is not necessarily one of the largest needs of Colts. But it will happen if Dayo Odingbo leaves at a free agency and the team shortened Samson Ebukk in this extra -season. The transition from Ebukam, which missed the entire 2024 season with Achilles injury, can generate approximately $ 7.5 million in restriction savings. With what has been said, such a move is very realistic.

At 6 feet-5 and £ 260, Jack Sawyer is smaller than some of the other edge prospects in the class of draft 2025. However, this did not prevent him from being an Ohio stroke player. He ended at the top seven in the big ten in sacks twice and led the conference in forced strikes this season last season. Sawyer recorded 64 pressure last season, which was the fourth most among the edges. In 2024, Colts ranked 22nd in place of pressure and 26th place in sacks.

Colts prepared a defensive end Laiatu Latu in the first round (15th as a whole) last year. He had a solid first year in Indie as he was assigned to the PFWA All-Rookie team. Sawyer, which is designed as a second place, can join Latu and Co. On the COLTS fire line in 2025, this would be a good move for the team if that happened.
