Clarington approves plan for future park on former Bowmanville Zoo site – durhamradionews.com

After gathering public feedback on a proposed design for a 34-acre community park on the former Bowmanville Zoo lands, Clarington Council approved a master plan for the project.

The park will be located north of Highway 2 in east Bowmanville.

“At Clarington, the Zoo Lands are near and dear to our hearts. We know residents will be thrilled to have access to this much-loved property once again, which has long been an important part of the Clarington community,” said Mayor Adrian Foster. “By getting to work as soon as possible to build trails in the park, we can have usable green space for everyone to enjoy while we continue to work towards the design and construction of the ambitious parkland that was created in consultation with the community .”

The municipality says there will be natural play structures, an outdoor amphitheater, trails, demonstration gardens and spaces for art and culture installations.

The municipality developed the park in collaboration with the local community Valleys 2000.

“We are very excited to work with Clarington and our community partners on this transformational project to create a wonderful park and green educational opportunities in the heart of Bowmanville,” said Ron Strike, president of Valleys 2000. “We want to recognize the leadership and vision to Clarington Council and staff leading up to this day.”
