RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Northern Nevada Public Health has closed Lakemill Lodge pending repairs after inspectors said they found used drug syringes and human waste.
The NNPH Hazmat Team, along with the City of Reno, RPD and RFD conducted an inspection of Lakemill Lodge on Wednesday as part of a regular investigation into complaints and code issues that have arisen.
Health inspectors say they found evidence of human waste and controlled substances in stairwells and common areas.
RPD also conducted testing on used hypodermic needles found on the main stairwell, which tested positive for fentanyl, methamphetamine, and heroin.
NNPH has evacuated residents of Lakemill Lodge and closed the building until recovery occurs and officials determine the building can reopen.
The city of Reno, as well as other community agencies and organizations, are working with residents living in the facility to provide temporary housing while remodeling can take place.
