Chesapeake leaders this week voted to support a grant application, which, if awarded, will help the city set up a transit RideShare transit system upon request that is currently piloting in two Hampton Road cities.

Chesapik City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to support the Hampton Roads Transit application for state grant that will help to establish what is called “Microtransitis” zone in Chesapik in an attempt to expand access to fixed bus routes for longer distances throughout the region.

The Chesapeake Microtransit Zone would be similar to a riding system on demand, which is already available at Virginia Beach and Newport News. Called Hampton Roads Transit Ondemand, users can request a minivan walk in specific operating areas for $ 2 per person.

The microtransitis area will cover 11 square miles, serving the large bridge, pigeon decares, fans, Albemarle farms and Albemarle Acres regions connecting riders with places like Tidewater Community Community, CHESAPE MUMIN and DO For city employees.

“The Microtransit service will be fully linked to the HRT bus network so that they provide a meaningful and useful connection as the first/last match of the customer’s trip before and after using a fixed route,” said HRT President William Harel in a note of City leaders.

The vote on Tuesday was to receive the consent of the city to apply for a grant of $ 1.3 million from the Ministry of Railway Transport and Public Transport of Virginia, although HRT has already filed the application for compliance with the deadline on February 1, according to a note of City employees. Tuesday of the vote was unanimously approved, but the Council of State Memorandums could choose not to allocate funding if they opposed this move.
