January 25 (Upi) – The suspect has been accused of the US District Court in Burlington, Virginia, for killing US border patrol David Chris Maland in Vermont on Monday afternoon.

21-year-old Teresa Youngblut has been charged with a single charge of using a deadly weapon in attacking a US border patrol agent and a charge of using and launching a firearm during the attack, the US prosecutor’s office said in Vermont on Friday.

“The events that led to this prosecution are tragically demonstrated how men and women from law enforcement regularly expose their lives on a map while trying to keep our communities and our country safe,” said US Prosecutor Michael Dresher.

“The Prosecutor’s Office of the United States is deeply grateful to those who have the courage to do such a dangerous job,” Dreshire said. “We intend to honor them the memory of the border patrol agent Maland, fulfilling our prosecutorial obligations so that justice can be given.”

Youngblut was opened with a driver’s license from Washington, while its companion Felix Bauholt was from Germany and remained in the United States, although there was a visa.

Youngblut is said to have shot and killed Maland with a gun while approaching the vehicle at 3:15 pm on the southern I-91 in Coventry.

At least one border patrol agent responded to the fire and struck Youngblut and Bauholt, who is said to have removed a firearm when he was shot and killed.

Youngblut was driving the blue Toyota Prius, in which Bauholt sat in the front passenger seat during the stop, which was done under the pretext for a potential violation of immigration rules, ABC News reported.

Bauholt was declared dead on the spot while Youngblut was taken to a hospital for medical care.

The oath declaration of charges states that an employee at a hotel in Lindonville, Virginia, reported suspicious activities of Youngblut and Bauholt days earlier.

The hotel employee was concerned that Youngblut and Baukholt wore black tactical clothing and protective equipment while they were openly wore firearms in holsters.

Law enforcement agencies earlier on Monday watched the couple in Prius while parked in a Walmart parking lot in Newport, VT.

Bauholt was seen wrapping aluminum foil around objects that later it turns out to be mobile phones.

The couple has been in the area for several days and told the US Police of Vermont and the agents to investigate internal security that they were looking for a property to buy.

After the shooting, the agents found two firearms, ammunition, tactical equipment, several laptops computers, a pair of two -way radio stations and mobile phones wrapped in aluminum foil inside Prius, which has a vehicle registration in North Carolina in the name of Baukholt.

Bauholt was a computer expert who was initially authorized to be in the United States with a work visa, but remained after its expiration.

The FBI continues to investigate the case.
