Batton Rouge and Lafayette voters have elected new members of the Louisiana Senate Special Elections on Saturday, raising current members of the State House of Representatives at both open places.
Reporter Larry Seltras of Baton Rouge won directly in the race to fill the vacancy in the Senate district 14, created when Cleo Fields won the November election for the 6th Congress County. Selders, a first -term MP, avoids run -off against Democrats Quentin Anthony Anderson, Community defender and a non -profit leader and the social worker of the school system Carolyn Hill.
Selders is also a social worker and was a member of the East Baton Rouge (BREC) parish Commission before joining the legislature in 2021.
In the Senate District 23, State Representative Brach Myers of Lafayette won a battle with his colleague Republican Jesse Regan, a parish counselor of Lafayette and business owner.
Mayers, who took his place at home in January 2024, is part of the family founded LHC Group Home Health Company, which is sold for $ 5.4 billion to UNITEDHEALTH in February 2024. He will fill Jean’s place -Polo, left open when he won the election of the Louisiana Public Service Commission last year.
Louisiana’s Secretary of State will not announce official winners until Monday.
