Laredo, Texas (KGNS) – It is a major in the community and for more than four decades his love for time has decorated all kinds of screens.
Of course, we are talking about our own Richard Heatwave Berler, who has been celebrating 45 years in KNS.
“Growing up in Western port Connecticut, I always wanted to see him 100 degrees and never got there,” he said. His love for warmth and curiosity made him visit the Meteorological Bureau when he was 10 years old, he also found part of the history in the small town in South Texas.
Noting: “I found that Larendo struck 100 degrees on February 28, 1940, not in mid -summer. I couldn’t believe every place could hit 100, so I was determined to walk the streets of Laredo at High Noon.
Then one day it became a reality. Berler’s debut at the station of your good neighbor at 1980 Valentine’s Day. “In fact, I had to take one card off the road and hug another. Added Berler.
Throughout his career, he has covered all kinds of changes over time. “Of course, for Hurricane Alan in 1980, I was on every half hour of Sign An to give up. To give you an idea of how desperate I was for observations, I called the Milk Queen all around South Texas to ask them in what ways the bushes and trees bend over to give me an idea of the wind direction. Therefore, I was able to judge quite well where the center of hurricane Alan was when it came inside. ”
Another unforgettable moment was the cover of the great American eclipse, a historical event that made history.
Asked if he thought he would stay here for such a long time, Berler replied: “I hoped I would do it, and I am amazed that I got to. There are very few that stay in one station for so long. The career lasted 45 years, and I am actually about 49 when you turn on Dulut. I have been a chief from the first day and I hope to last a little longer because I really like what I do. ”
