Stagecoach, Nev. (AP) – Authorities are trying to determine the cause of the crash of a medical transportation flight, in which all five people on board the aircraft, including a patient, in a mountainous area in North Nevada, were killed.
The National Transport Safety Council sent a seven -member team of investigators at the scene of the Friday night’s crash near Stagecoach.
The crash occurred amid a winter storm warning issued by the National Meteorological Service in Renault for large parts of Nevada, including parts of Lyon County. The snow was constantly raining about 20 mph (30 kph) with gusts up to 30 mph (50 kph).
The visibility was less than two miles (3.2 kilometers) with a cloud ceiling about 2000 feet (600 meters) above the ground when the flight left Renault for Salt Lake City, Utah, and came down, according to the Meteorological Service.
Care Flight, which provides an ambulance and helicopter service service, identifies the downloaded aircraft such as Pilatus PC-12 and said the pilot, nurse, flight paramedic, patient and patient member died.
Robin Hayes, a stage resident and a former nurse, said she had heard that the scatter plane was flying over her house before colliding behind her property.
“I knew the plane was in difficulty,” Hayes told The Reno Gazette Journal. “I knew it would collapse. I just hoped he wouldn’t hit my house. “
Hayes called 911 and went out, but couldn’t see the remains because of the blowing snow.
Misty Gruenemay told the newspaper that the wind you, and the snow was blowing loudly when he heard what sounds like a wiza and Tupet behind his house in Stagecoach. The rural community is home to about 2,500 inhabitants and is located about 45 miles (72 kilometers) southeast of Renault.
Gruenemay said he wanted to help, but the conditions were terrible and there was no vehicle that could safely pass the impassable roads buried for 6 inches of snow.
“It was snow and visibility was terrible. I don’t even understand why this plane is allowed to take off, “Grunemay said.
The Lyon County Sheriff said the authorities began receiving calls for the crash near Stagecoach, Nevada, around 9:15 pm and found the remains two hours later.
Care flight staff said it stopped all flights and would work with each of its operations to determine when it will return to service.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the aircraft is registered on a Guardian flight based in South Jordan, Utah. Care Flight is a service of Remsa Health in Reno and Guardian Flight.
More than half a million medical patients use air ambulance services every month in the United States, according to the website of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
