Catholic High’s Mac Couhig scored a goal in the first half when the bears hit the I-4 Zone for boys with a 1-0 win over host Baton Rouge Hi on Saturday afternoon.
Kakhig scored his 25th goal of the season in the sixth minute of a long pass from Ben Jeet. Kakhig started right in the midfielder and beat three ball defenders and rammed home with a 12 yard.
Catholic (12-3-3, 4-0 in district I-4) and Baton Rouge High (14-2-3, 3-1) will collect high seeds when the pairs of Boys Division I playoffs are announced next week .
“We had a good ball movement in the scoring game and found Ben Dzhut in the seam,” said bears coach JB Brunet. “Ben turned and played a great hollow ball that had a nice finish. I thought we were playing our best match for the season. We want to be able to achieve this second goal. It’s always hard to play on Baton Rouge High, which is good Coach and a great season.
BRHS guardian Andrew Araujo finished with eight rescues, three of which dived. The Catholic goalkeeper Santi Okupati had four saves.
“Catholic defeated us in physics in the first half,” said Baton Rouge High coach Richard Harsh. “We did not go out with the right mentality. Catholic is good and will punish you for mistakes. We did not defend their game as evaluation as we wanted. We played much better in the second half. We had opportunities. Andrew Araujo is a two -year -old captain and plays very well in the door. ”
Jewett had a 20-yard cross in the 18th minute in which Araujo dived to kill. Aaron Danielson had a left-footed shot inside the box that Araujo Dove to stop in the 35th minute. Luke Bonona from Catholics had a shot in the 76th minute.
Brhs had numerous running to the Catholic goal in the second half, but the back of the bears by Max Chamberlain, Cooper Alan, Davis Weidman and Noah Romain were there for the stops.
George Perkins of Bulldogs had a shot in the 67th minute.
“I liked that my team has a really good energy without the ball,” Brunett said. “February is always a good month and we look forward to playoffs.”
“We have to play our game and have a different mentality in the playoffs,” Harsh said. “We will learn from this loss. We must play with different types of intensity in the playoffs.”
